CLIENT: Ortho Clinical Diagnostics (2008)

PROJECT: VITROS® 5600 Integrated System - medical equipment design and engineering

The VITROS® 5600 Integrated System is a high-capacity clinical laboratory system uniquely designed to seamlessly integrate clinical chemistry and immunoassay testing into a single instrument with first-of-its-kind Sample Centered Processing.  That means patient samples with multiple test requests can now be run on a single system rather than requiring the laboratory to split the sample and send it to multiple instruments.  Hospital and commercial laboratories benefit by minimizing the labor, material, space and other costs associated with splitting samples across multiple systems.  Most of all, physicians and patients benefit because this integrated system minimizes the amount of blood needed to run laboratory tests while providing fast, accurate results that can be used to effectively diagnose, treat, and monitor health.  When laboratories run better, doctors know sooner and patients’ lives change.

Priority Designs supported Ortho Clinical Diagnostics’ extensive product development efforts by focusing on the needs of laboratory technicians through research, design, ergonomic recommendations, mechanical engineering, and prototyping.

Our contributions to this project included research, strategy, 2-D and 3-D design development, 3D CAD modeling & engineering and prototyping.
